Louis Vuitton Cup Flights 6 and 7 |
Good breeze makes it hard to catch up Shosholoza continues on with their roll and put a fright into the Spanish today by holding them off in speed on the first leg after an equal start. The Spanish had to tack away and then they both came back together underneath the Starboard layline. With the Spanish underneath them and heading to the port layline, Shosholoza locked them out and would be able to tack for the line but not before a series of small luffs the the Desafio. Once around, Shosholoza was like a deer with the headlights on them. They froze, and hesitated setting the kite. The Spanish had to go somewhere, so the dove down setting the kite and Shosh was left behind. The South Africans almost had their chance when one of the Spanish foredeck crew went dragging in the water before being fished out during the downwind rounding.

There was quite a bit of hope for Shosholoza against New Zealand, even
after NZ circled around them at the start with such speed that
Shosholoza never could get going but once they did on the first
starboard tack, they showed equal speed. So much so, New Zealand could
only use their starboard advantage to sail the South Africans out past
the port layline but did so effectively so gain the lead. |
