Swedes jibe away
New Zealand bow wake
New Zealand bow wake

It was a strange race today in the Swedes vs New Zealand. The start sequence was fairly normal except that the Swedes had just enough speed to plant themselves in front of New Zealand and really slow them down. China Team says goodbyeNormally New Zealand would plan their approach so as to be able to tack off to the committee boat but not this time. New Zealand must have been off in their timing or positioning because the Swedes slowed them down so much, that by the time the gun went off Victory was at full speed at the pin and NZ struggling to get across the line.
The Swedes are able to bounce NZ eventually way out past the starboard layline and they both came in on a close reach to the windward mark. Keeping NZ slowed down enough they are able to tack cleanly and set around the windward mark. NZ camped right on their air three quarters down the next leg but the Swedes jibed away. Were they worried about going all the way to the leeward layline? Maybe, but when they split away, they found less pressure and lost ground when they came together again. They followed the Kiwis around the port leeward pin which sealed their fate.
Meanwhile, China Team came to the dock to say goodbye to Valencia. Champagne fights ensued.
