Day 2 - races 4-5
Barging at the committee end
Barging at the committee end

Lighter air, 6-7 knots, started the fourth race with a strong bias to the port end of the line. This left  alot of boats squeezed out at the windward end like Warpath. Again most of the boats like Siemens worked to the left side of the course and the ones who got the better start were able to get to that side first. Meanwhile,
was buried at the start and had to split off to the right giving her a thirteenth place but she made up for it by a fifth in the next race. Rush was the first boat to round the leeward mark followed by Santa Ana, Siemens, and Platoon.
Again the left side of the course was the preferred side downwind but some boats gybed away immediately on a flyer.

Siemens was able to hang on to their decent start as well as Rush and Santa Ana who finished  123.  A  repeat mostly of yesterday:  Those who got a clean start and were able to get cleanly to the left were in the top of the fleet. After rounding the weather mark, they went back to the same side until they were just under the layline.

Orlanda shows how important it is to get the first row start in this fleet and being able to head off to the favored side.  She carried on to win the race. The start for the top group of makes the difference but Lexus even with their big names of Paul Cayard and Russel Coutts couldn't make good even though they had a better start just underneath Orlanda.
