 John Cooks Transpac52 Cristabella
Pisco Sour and Caixia Galicia are on the hard getting ready for the
upcoming racing in Valencia while Aifos and Cristabella will be racing
in the Castellon Costa Aazahar along with the best IMS boats on the
Spanish circuit. There will only be two Transpacs racing in this
regatta, Aifos the Spanish navy yacht, and Cristabella owned by John
Cook from the RCN Palma.
We had a quick talk with John Cook the owner of Cristabella who will
sail his first regatta with his new Transpac52, commisioned in January.
John was in Italy, near Naples, staying in a
house once owned by William Wolton with the name Cristabella and wanted
to buy the house. He didn't have the money so he decided to by a boat
instead. He hadn't started sailing until he was fifty but then had
several cruising boats. He started racing after being invited on a race
in Sardinia and knew then he was hooked. He has had a series of race
boats named Cristabella and at first wasn't interested in the
Transpacs even though the King of Spain was very enthusiastic and
promoting the class. At first there were only three boats, then
in August of last year 5, in December 7, and by then he could n't
stand it any more and commissioned his boat in January.
John is very pro Spanish sailing. The sailing
organization, sailing schedule and level of sailing is better than
anywhere else in the Med.
He will continue with the rest of the Spanish circuit in
Valencia, Alicante, Mallorca and other venues with a crew that
has plenty of America's Cup experience and crewed around
the world racing experience.
