The wind bows out for the last Alicante MedCup race

It was a slow painful wait for wind or the end of the regatta, especially for those sailors and press who experienced the beginnig of the America's Cup Louis Vuitton Elimination series. After two general recalls from  a fleet desperate to get clear wind from the beginning, the race comittee abandoned the last race. This means that Bribon held on to their first place standing going into the race to claim their first MedCup regatta sailing with their new boat.

One strategy consistently used by decison makers on board Bribon often would prefer to let the  fleet go by not being on the line but come in late with speed  and be able quickly be able to tack away.  As one sailor pointed out, sailing at full speed for the first 3 minutes after the start  is critical.
On the podium, and not to be forgotten, was  Mean Machine,  in second place.

Mean Machine could have easily won the regatta points wise but two double digit finishes made the difference. The results of the next regatta in Puerto Portals will surely be close again as available crew are rotated on some boats which changes their team's character.
